Free Knitting Pattern: Tilly Scarf (+ Son de Flor Wrap Dress Review)

Growing up, my sister and I were huge fans of Little House on the Prairie. We watched all of the episodes multiple times and spent countless hours roleplaying the Ingalls girls. When I discovered Son de Flor, an ethical and sustainable fashion brand from Lithuania, I instantly fell in love with their dreamy dresses, which reminded me of childhood memories and of the prairie dresses worn by those young pioneers.

Last month Son de Flor kindly offered to send me one of their stunning linen garments to try out. Having admired their products for years, I was absolutely thrilled about this! I chose the Wrap Dress in Red Poppy, which I had been eyeing since I discovered their brand. When I got the dress in the mail, I immediately set out to do two things. Firstly, I messaged my sister Sasja and asked her if we could go to the forest to take some proper photos of the dress (Sasja is a gifted photographer who takes the most magical pictures, you can check her work here). Secondly, I set out to design a little knit neckerchief to wear with my Wrap Dress during the cold winter months.

Although I had already heard many good things about Son de Flor, I was still pleasantly surprised by this dress! The Wrap Dress has a V-shaped neckline and a full circle skirt. My favorite thing about the wrap design is that it works well for practically every body shape, as it can be loosened or tightened as desired. The length is also perfect: I’m fairly tall (1.78m / 5’10”), so some dresses are a tad bit short on me, but this one falls below the knee – which is my favorite length. The Wrap Dress has two large side seam pockets, that can easily hold your daily essentials. The construction seems very sturdy and the quality of the linen is very high. The Red Poppy color is a lovely deep and vibrant red, that looks even better in person than on the photos!

I initally saw linen as more of a summer-fabric, but this heavyweight linen dress is surprisingly warm. With tights it can definitely be worn during the colder months! I designed a little neckerchief to wear with my Wrap Dress and to keep my neck warm during the cold winter days. You can find the pattern for this scarf below for free. An ad-free, printable PDF version of the pattern can be purchased in English and Dutch in my webshop and on Ravelry

TILLY SCARF

She’s cute, warm and elegant: meet the Tilly Scarf! I have a number of dresses and sweaters that keep my body warm during the winter months, but leave my neck uncovered and cold. That is where this classic neckerchief comes in! This little lightweight scarf can easily be stuffed in your pocket and pulled out whenever you need a little extra warmth. Inspired by vintage neck scarfs and cowboy neckerchiefs, this accessory fits a wide range of styles and wardrobes.

The Tilly Scarf is worked flat in one piece, from tip to tip in seed stitch with built-in i-cord edges. After casting on, increases are worked on both sides until the desired width is reached. The middle section is worked without any increases or decreases. After knitting this section, decreases are worked on both sides until the tip of the scarf is reached.
